  16. Representative from New Jersey who was the inspiration for the
  17. character Lacey Davenport in the comic strip Doonesbury; in
  18. Bernardsville, New Jersey. Fenwick, a onetime model and the
  19. author of Vogue's Book of Etiquette in 1948, came from an
  20. aristocratic, moneyed background. Elected to Congress at 64, she
  21. served four terms, gaining a reputation as a civil rights
  22. crusader and an advocate for reduced campaign spending.
